The Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority is known as APEDA. It is a governmental authority established under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act. 

Objective of APEDA

APEDA is responsible for export promotion and development of scheduled products. The authority aims to grow the scheduled food product industry. Therefore, it provides financial assistance and information related to the development of scheduled products. 

APEDA registration is a one-time process, and it is mandatory to take if you want to export the scheduled/specified products. For registration under APEDA, the applicant is required to submit the application form within one month from the date of the business undertaking. 

Functions performed by APEDA

  • It helps in the promotion of the scheduled products
  • It provides assistance in packaging and marketing of the products 
  • It helps to maintains the standard of the products 
  • It helps the exporters to expand their business by providing training in various fields. 

Persons eligible for APEDA registration

Every person who wants to export scheduled products has to obtain APEDA registration. The exporter can register as a

  • Merchant exporter – involves in trading, or
  • Manufacturing exporter – involves in trading and manufacturing both

The person can register himself/herself at the APEDA portal by filing an application form. There is also a governmental registration fee of Rs. 5000.

List of all the scheduled products covered under the APEDA Act 

Here are the following specified/scheduled food products covered under the APEDA registration:

  • Meat and meat products
  • Fruits, vegetables, and their products
  • Poultry and poultry products
  • Dairy products
  • Honey, jaggery, and sugar products
  • Confectionery, biscuits, and bakery products
  • Cocoa and its products, including chocolates of every kind.
  • Groundnuts, peanuts, and walnuts
  • Cereal and cereal products
  • Pickles, papads, and chutneys
  • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Guar gum
  • Herbal and medicinal plants
  • Floriculture and floriculture products

Documents required for APEDA registration

Before applying for APEDA registration, it is necessary to keep the documents ready to make the registration process quick. Here is the list of documents are required for APEDA registration

  • Self-attested copy of Import-Export code (as issued by DGFT)
  • Copy of the firm’s bank account statement for the last two months
  • Bank certificate showing the financial position of the applicant. 
  • Business registration certificate 
  • Cancelled cheque

Here is the step-by-step process for the APEDA registration:

Online registration at APEDA

Step 1: Visit the APEDA website https://apeda.gov.in/apedawebsite/ . Here register yourself by clicking on the “Register as Member.” 

 

Step 2: Enter all the basic fields and click on “Submit.”

  • Import -Export Code,
  • Company name,
  • Email Id,
  • Mobile number

Step 3: You will receive an OPT on your registered email and phone number. Enter the OTP to verify and click on “Submit.”

Submission of documents 

Step 4: Once verification is complete, you need to fill an online application form. And upload the essential documents. You can save or edit the application form easily as it will save as a draft until final submission.

Once you have completed the form, make payment of APED registration fees of Rs. 5000 via online modes. 

After that, an application number will be generated. Save this number for any future reference. 

Issuance of RCMC – Registration-Cum-Membership Certificate

Step 5: On issuance of RCMC, you will receive the login details on your registered email id. Now, you can log in to your account at the APEDA website through “Exporter Login.” After login, click on the “Track application” to view the application status.

If there is any discrepancy in the application form, you can resubmit the documents or information.

Verification by APEDA officials 

Step 6: At last, APEDA officials review the application to approve the RCMC. On approval, the officials will grant you the certificate. And, after login, you can view the certificate at “View RCMC Certificate.”

Reasons for cancellation of APEDA registration

Any violation of law attracts the cancellation of the registration certificate of your business. Similarly, if the exporter performs any of the below-mentioned violence, his/her APEDA registration shall be cancelled:

  • Submitting false information at the time of registration 
  • Breach of rules of Act
  • Breach of conditions as mentioned in the registration certificate
  • The company fails to export the scheduled product for 12 consecutive months

Conclusion

APEDA is a government organization that promotesscheduled products export. The exporters registered under APEDA are eligible to avail of various benefits in marketing, packaging, and growing their business at a large scale.

APEDA registration is mandatory for all those willing to export the scheduled products. However, furnishing false information or breaching the rules may lead to the cancellation of the registration certificate.
